Moving a Country
Moving A Country by Jade Amoli-Jackson is now available to buy from Amazon
This debut collection of poetry and prose by Jade Amoli-Jackson tell stories of life growing up in rural Uganda, and then of the brutal conflict and violence that she and so many other people experienced.
Her writing also provides an extraordinary insight into the process of seeking asylum in the UK and of making London her new home.
Published with support from Platforma arts and refugees network, the collection has been put together and edited by Lucy Popescu, Jade Amoli-Jackson's mentor at the Write to Life project at Freedom From Torture.
“Most of the refugee stories we read about in the media are negative,” says Lucy. “This wonderful collection of Jade’s work directly challenges the negative press given to asylum seekers. Jade’s courage shines through her writing and pays testament to the strength of the human spirit.”

"Jade’s talent for writing, and her strength, gentleness and humour shine through in her book and I sincerely wish I could do her writing justice in this review, but you really do have to read it yourself to appreciate how wonderful it is. All I can say is that I hope many people will read this book and begin to understand what the process of seeking asylum is like for people who are displaced, afraid, often alone, in terrible pain, and overwhelmed by grief"

"[Jade] has a beautiful beaming smile and always welcomes you with a hug. She can also be very very funny. So it is no surprise that some of the poems in the book make you laugh out loud. But the story that lies behind that smile is heartbreaking."
